[LINK] Ballmer announces Microsoft reorganisation

All Things D reports on Steve Ballmer’s announcement of Microsoft’s new strategy, and its reorganisation.

We are rallying behind a single strategy as one company — not a collection of divisional strategies. Although we will deliver multiple devices and services to execute and monetize the strategy, the single core strategy will drive us to set shared goals for everything we do. We will see our product line holistically, not as a set of islands.

Better late than never for Ballmer to realise that Microsoft’s silo-driven culture is a problem, but this is going to be a big culture-shock. It will be good for customers, who, for too long, have dealt with fragmentation, competing products and maddening inconsistencies and incompatibilities.
